Network of Services and Integrated Delivery of Care

The Mount Sinai Beth Israel (MSBI) Department of Radiology is part of the Mount Sinai Health System providing imaging and interventional services to the southeast side of Manhattan in the region centered at Gramercy Park, Union Square and Stuyvesant as well as to Midwood, Flatlands and Marine Park in Kings Highway, Brooklyn. The Radiology Department provides a wide range of outpatient and inpatient diagnostic imaging and interventional services that fully integrate with the services provided by the clinical departments. The MSBI Department of Radiology also maintains a very close working relationship with the Mount Sinai West (MSR) and Mount Sinai St. Luke’s (MSSL) Departments of Radiology in West Manhattan at West Midtown and Morningside Heights. The three departments share the same picture archiving communication system (PACS). Radiologists at Mount Sinai Beth Israel are credentialed in all Mount Sinai Health System hospitals and have clinical appointments at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine.

Radiology Consultation Services

The Department of Radiology emphasizes the need to make available robust and reliable consultation services to referring physicians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For each clinical indication a doctor seeks to diagnose and treat, there is a specific type of imaging exam that will yield a more useful result over the others. We have standardized its consultation services to help referring physicians select the best exam, determine if imaging follow-up is required, or even determine if imaging is the appropriate path for diagnosis in the first place. Better patient care can be provided when radiologists and referring physicians work together towards the optimal use of imaging.

General and Sub-Specialty Expertise

Mount Sinai West Department of Radiology uses a combination of general radiologists and sub-specialty radiologists to provide the best quality of care and response times. The right mix of generalists, who are skilled at interpreting the images from a broad range of conditions and body systems, and sub-specialists, who narrow their focus on a specific condition or body system, allows us to deliver expert, efficient, high quality imaging care to our patients.

Educating the Next Generation of Radiology Professionals

Mount Sinai Beth Israel has been a longstanding teaching institution in New York City dedicated to the training of doctors in multiple specialties, including future radiologists. In addition to the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program, Interventional Radiology and Breast Imaging Fellowship Programs, the department provides radiology instruction to students from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as well as multiple national and international guest medical students.
